    Pipe Insulation

Separate Pipe Insulation ratings are provided for the following building types:
Domestic (Hot Water & Heating), Buildings other than Domestic (BOTD - Health, Commercial, Retail, Industrial, Education).

Functional unit for Domestic (Housing): Hot Water and Heating

1m length of pipe insulation to fit a 22mm diameter pipe - pipe insulation thickness to be calculated according to BS EN ISO 12241:1998 using standardised assumptions: horizontal pipe at 60°C in still air at 15°C, emissivity of outer surface of insulated system as specified, maximum permissible heat loss 9.12 W/m.

Functional unit for Buildings other than Domestic (BOTD)

1m length of pipe insulation to fit a 21.3mm diameter pipe - pipe insulation thickness to be calculated according to BS EN ISO 12241:1998 using standardised assumptions: horizontal pipe at temperature (as per list below), in still air at 15°C (hot pipes) or 25°C (chilled pipes), emissivity of outer surface of insulated system as specified.

    BOTD temperatures modelled & maximum permissible heat loss (W/m): Hot Water 60°C (7.13); Heating 75°C (9.28); Chilled 10°C (2.72); Chilled 5°C (3.27); Chilled 0°C (3.81).
