To provide annual efficiency estimates, an annual combined space and hot water heating duty cycle was developed. This cycle incorporates hourly space and hot water heat load and temperature assumptions for the UK climate. It is based on the standard EN15316-4-2:2017 and the system boundary SEPEMO SPF_H4, it uses EN14825 (Ecodesign) test data - see here for background. A brief background to the calculation method's development is available here. The calculation method is available here and a detailed background document here.
The UCL Energy Institute "Final report on analysis of heat pump data from the renewable heat premium payment (RHPP) scheme", which considered field data for 700 heat pump installation sites in the UK, indicated that 36% of heat pump installations have weather compensation disabled. Therefore, the above chart enables both scenarios (on or off) to be displayed.
